New recruits boost Murphy management

16 Jan 17 Murphy Group has begun 2017 with a raft of new senior appointments, including the recruitment of a new managing director from Balfour Beatty.

Murphy has appointed Peter Anderson as managing director for the south, putting him in charge of the company鈥檚 southern business units. He joins from Balfour Beatty, where he was most recently managing director of its joint venture on the HS2 rail project. Prior to that, he held various managing director roles including in its rail international, rail UK, rail services and rail renewals businesses. Peter Anderson joins Murphy in early February.

Murphy chief executive Steve Hollingshead said: 鈥淚 am delighted Peter is joining us. We have a lot to deliver for our clients and there are great opportunities across the infrastructure sector. Peter further boosts our team to maximise those opportunities and deliver our ten-year plan. He will become a key member of our executive management board and I鈥檓 pleased he鈥檚 joining us on our journey.鈥

Murphy鈥檚 current MD for the south, Darren Ramsay, will move to lead the bidding and delivery for some of the company鈥檚 major infrastructure projects.

Also joining Murphy from Balfour Beatty is Mark Singleton, as group head of planning and project controls. He was previously head of planning for the major infrastructure division of Balfour Beatty 萝莉原创 Services UK.

Miles Cobley joins from Laing O鈥橰ourke to take up the role of head of planning and project controls in the north. At Laing O鈥橰ourke he was most recently general manager of Glass Reinforced Concrete UK, a Laing O'Rourke manufacturing business.

Shaun Sheldrake joins as operations director for construction. He was most recently construction and development director at Durkan. At Murphy he will focus on development opportunities as well as selected housing, education and regeneration projects with developers, local authorities and housing association clients.

Also joining Murphy is Jonathan Wright as human capital director. He was previously HR director of Aviva (Friends Life Group).

An internal promotion sees Paul Bourke appointed as head of highways and streetworks, taking up his role at the end of January. He joined Murphy in 2007 as a site agent on water and wastewater projects, and since then has progressed to become construction manager at Deephams waste water treatment plant in north London.

Long-serving Paul Brosnahan remains as director of Folgate Estates Ltd and continues to manage Murphy鈥檚 property portfolio.
