Working for Transport Scotland, the contractors managed to lay 2,460 tonnes of asphalt in just 29 hours between Junctions 6 and 7 of the northbound carriageway of the M9. Similar scale road schemes are usually delivered within a 48-hour working window, they said.聽聽
Tarmac said that the contract set an 鈥渋mportant benchmark鈥 for laying output.
The job was completed quickly by closing the carriageway and having two paving trains working side by side, providing joint-free construction and consistent compaction across the full width of the carriageway. The work was part of Amey鈥檚 G4 South East contract with Transport Scotland.
Tarmac Contracting Scotland general manager Andrew Grimsley said: 鈥淭his project鈥檚 success is the result of a collaborative attitude to delivery, proactive management and a team that is focused on results.聽 It provides an important industry benchmark for future schemes as we strive to work as efficiently as possible to cut project timescales and minimise disruption to the Scottish public.鈥
